SEL Core Survey
Posted 12/19/18

Parents,

SCHS will administer the SEL Core Survey to all students during advisory on January 23, 2019. If you wish to opt your student out of this survey, please send an email to jhatter@carlsbadusd.net with the following information:

  • the student's name
  • the student's grade
  • the student's ID number
  • your name
  • your relationship to the student

Why are we launching the survey?

We currently have lots of data and measures to inform us about how our students are developing academically, but we would like to get a better picture of how our students are developing and learning as young citizens and future adults. The CORE SEL Survey is our first step towards building a district wide system of support for students’ social and emotional growth.

What is the CORE SEL Survey?

The survey is 25 questions for students in grades 5-12. It provides a measure of students’ competencies in 4 key domains of social-emotional learning and the 6 attributes of the Carlsbad Graduate Profile. It covers different student behaviors (e.g., coming to class prepared, following directions) and beliefs (e.g., whether it is more important to be talented or to put forth a lot of effort). Taken together, the survey results are indicators of students’ social-emotional skills such as self-management and growth mindset.

Who administers the survey?

The 25-question survey is mandatory for students in grades 5-12 and we will give the survey during advisory.
