What does the instructional day and calendar year look like?

  • Sage Creek High School students will enroll in a trimester schedule.  This schedule was selected because of the various benefits it offers students:  students can accelerate and earn up to 300 credits, take more elective courses, remediate, and/or take additional courses in the core areas.  Please CLICK HERE to read more about the distinctions of the trimester schedule.
  • While the Sage Creek High School instructional day begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.  Each Wednesday is Late Start and classes begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • The school year calendar will be the same as all Carlsbad Unified School District schools: first and last day of school, vacation periods, and holidays.

Can a student graduate early because of the accelerated nature of the trimester schedule and ability to earn 300 credits when only 230 are needed to graduate?

  • Technically, yes.  However, in our consultations with schools offering the trimester schedule, the norm has been that students in fact take courses that offer more in-depth study in core-subject areas, such as science and mathematics, or students explore various electives.
